Benefits

The AC Transit EasyPass program is an excellent employee benefit, recruitment, and retention tool. It benefits the employee by:

  • Saving money on commuting costs
  • Reducing stress levels by avoiding rush-hour traffic
  • Increasing productivity, by giving employees additional time to handle personal business (read the paper, write emails, or pay bills) before they get to work

EasyPass for Employers

The Easy Pass for Employers program is also a great way to encourage your employees to get out of their cars and take a fast, frequent, and reliable alternative to driving alone. It benefits the employer because it is an easily administered and inexpensive fringe benefit. The program can also assist employers in meeting emission/pollution reduction goals. The best news is that the more employees in your EasyPass participant pool, the lower the price per employee-it means more employees can become EasyPass users! The minimum number to get started is 100 employees.

Tax breaks for your employers and for your employees
Transportation costs-either employee or employer paid-can reduce an organization's payroll taxes up to $230 per month per participating employee! Transit pass benefits are tax deductible, and you can choose to subsidize the entire cost or a portion of the annual EasyPass program costs for each employee and deduct it as a business expense. Alternatively, your employees can pay for the EasyPass program with tax-free dollars. Tax laws also make it possible for you to offer a pre-tax payroll deduction to your employees, reducing the amount of employees' taxable earnings. It's like raising take-home pay. At the same time, you'll improve your bottom line by also reducing the amount of FICA and unemployment tax your company pays.

For more information about public transit-related tax benefits, visit the Internal Revenue Service at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15b.pdf and download Publication 15-B. You can also visit the American Public Transportation Association Web site at www.apta.org and download the publication "It Pays to Ride Public Transportation."

How to start an EasyPass Program

Call or email us to set-up a meeting
We will set-up a one hour meeting with you to provide an overview of our program and help you determine if EasyPass is right for your organization.

Determine your participant pool and receive a pricing estimate
We will help you figure out the best participant pool for your organization, and then we will determine your per-participant pricing estimate.

Program proposal
We will develop a program proposal for you that provides you with all the program details you'll need to show the decision-makers at your organization.

Once you have an EasyPass Program

Execute a baseline survey
The EasyPass program is results-driven-we want the program to work for your organization. One way to evaluate the program is to determine how your employees are currently getting to work, and compare that to ridership data at the end of the program. We will help you conduct an online survey of your employees and we will evaluate the survey results for you.

Identify a Site Coordinator
One of your employees will need to devote some of their time to coordinate the EasyPass program. That person will be the liaison between your organization and AC Transit. We will set them up with some training and promotional materials to help your EasyPass program.

Give everyone an EasyPass
All eligible employees should have access to an EasyPass. All participants will need a photo ID on their pass.

Receive resources & support
We want your EasyPass program to be a big success, so we are here to help you promote the program to your participants. You will get free services from the AC Transit EasyPass team to get the word out to all your employees about the EasyPass program, including:

  • Marketing activities planning assistance
  • Marketing and promotional collateral preparation
  • AC Transit service information
  • Promotional items
  • Ridership reports

Pricing

The EasyPass for Employers program is tailored to your business and considers the number of participants, the existing level of bus service at your location, and pass production, transaction, and administrative costs. Pricing is offered via the EasyPass Pricing Matrix as an annual fare or price-per-participant. This price is billed annually at the start of the program.

The matrix is comprised of two axes-the Number of Program Participants and the Level of Transit Service (LTS). The number of program participants represents the total number of employees in the program's participant pool. AC Transit uses a worksheet to determine the transit service level provided with a ¼-mile radius of each EasyPass location.
