Realign: Balanced Coverage Scenario
The Balanced Coverage Scenario balances maximizing ridership growth with providing a similar amount of coverage riders experience today. It simplifies routes to improve reliability and shorten travel times. In this scenario, how often a line runs will be based on customer demand. This scenario will improve access to jobs, grocery stores, hospitals, and other destinations throughout AC Transit’s service area. This scenario does not require additional resources to implement and will inform the development of a single service plan for consideration and implementation in August 2024.
The Realign project team has developed this interactive tool to allow you to explore and comment on the Balanced Coverage, Frequent Service, and Unconstrained Vision scenarios. The tool allows you to see all line proposals throughout the AC Transit service area, along with proposed frequencies and operating hours.
Highlights
West Contra Costa County
In this proposed Balanced Coverage (B) scenario, existing Line 72R will be consolidated into lines B72 and B72M to provide more reliable service on San Pablo Avenue. Line B70 will also be redesigned to provide additional service to address increased demand along Cutting Blvd. Line B72 will cease service to Hilltop Mall and terminate at Contra Costa College, Line B76 will be rerouted to encompass areas previously served by Line 72. With the increase in service on Line B72M, frequency along the MacDonald corridor will double to accommodate ridership demand. This scenario seeks to realign service routes with evolving demand patterns, ultimately benefitting both passengers and the Western Contra Costa community.
Northern Alameda County
Line 51A and 51B will be consolidated into the new Line B51, reducing transfers for riders and increasing connectivity between UC Berkeley and Fruitvale BART at a frequency of 12 minutes. Line B52 will be extended to provide new crosstown service on Cedar Street. Lines B6 and B51 will provide improved, transfer-free service on the Telegraph and College Avenue. corridors. Two new lines will also be introduced -- Line B61, connecting Maxwell Park and Monte Vista to Fruitvale BART, and Line B27 serving Ashby Avenue. Line B29 will undergo a redesign to extend service along Alcatraz Avenue in Berkeley, and Line B96 will be re-routed to serve Brooklyn Basin. Line B12 will be extended to serve Berkeley Marina and Line B18 will extend to Montclair. These adjustments aim to enhance connectivity and accessibility across Northern Alameda County, strategically realigning transit routes with demand patterns.
Central Alameda County
Line 99 will be discontinued and replaced with extended B10 service south along the Mission Blvd. corridor to Union City, reducing the need for transfers. Line B28 will more directly serve the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club. The goal of this scenario is to create a balanced distribution of service and frequency across Central Alameda County.
South Alameda County
All lines in South Alameda County will be increased to a frequency of 30 minutes. The new Line B299 will operate between Union City BART and Fremont BART via Decoto Road at a frequency of 30 minutes. The redesigned Line B212 will provide service into Santa Clara County instead of the Line B217, and Line B239 will connect Pacific Commons with both Warm Springs and Fremont BART. Line 215 will be discontinued due to low ridership and B212 will serve as a partial replacement route. This scenario also introduces Flex Service to Warm Springs with Line BWMZ (Warm Springs Microtransit Zone).
Transbay/All-Nighter
Transbay service will be adjusted to meet current transportation demand, with Lines BG and BJ redesigned to correspond with MTC regional planning efforts and lines BL, BLA, BOX and BW to see routing changes aimed at improving productivity. No changes are proposed to All-Nighter service.
